Seat is restructuring to focus on Cupra

Seat is restructuring its long-term plans to focus on its sub-brand Cupra, known for its performance cars.

Seat President Thomas Schäfer stated that the Seat brand name will continue to be used but will take on a different role within the Volkswagen Group. This likely means they will focus on other vehicles and mobility solutions, such as electric scooters like the Seat Mó.

Schäfer explained that it does not make sense to invest in both Seat and Cupra, especially considering that Cupra has higher earnings potential. Therefore, the Volkswagen Group will make significant investments in the growth and development of Cupra.

Thus, we will not see the name of the Spanish brand on new cars again after the models in the current product range become obsolete. The Seat brand name will be used on models focused on mobility solutions.

Cupra was initially a spin-off of Seat, but it became a brand in its own right and began producing special models such as the Cupra Formentor. In addition, it created excitement with new models such as the entry-level Cupra UrbanRebel hatchback and the sporty model Cupra DarkRebel. The UrbanRebel is known as the Raval in production form and is planned to be produced at the Seat Martorell factory in Spain in 2025.

Schäfer emphasized that there were no problems with the government regarding this change and that Spanish customers responded positively to Cupra. He also stated that Cupra is the fastest growing brand in Europe and said that this strategic change has been planned for a long time and Cupra's success reinforces the correctness of the decision.
