Polestar designer Nahum Escobedo is not happy with the designs

Nahum Escobedo, Polestar's head of exterior design, shared some of his thoughts on the intricacies of electric vehicle design. Stating that the way to increase efficiency in the design of electric vehicles involves much more than reducing weight, Escobedo especially emphasized the importance of aerodynamics. Most of today's electric vehicles have adopted rounded design elements that provide better aerodynamics. But Polestar's exterior design chief thinks the design should focus on extraordinary details to increase efficiency.

Criticism of Ambient Lightings

Another issue that Escobedo criticizes is excessive ambient lighting. As in conventional automobiles, it is a common practice to equip the interiors of electric vehicles with colored lights. However, Escobedo thinks that this is overdone and states that this excess light creates a "Las Vegas" atmosphere inside the vehicle.

Criticism of Flashy Lightings

In the same interview, Escobedo stated that overly exaggerated lighting elements were used in the exterior designs of some cars. He stated that these flashy lightings make the vehicles look like "Christmas lights on the street". He argues that the design should be simpler and more functional.

Minimalist Logo Preference

Escobedo explained that instead of putting large logos on Polestar's vehicles, he preferred the design to represent the brand. From his perspective, the design itself should be part of the brand and the design should stand out rather than using a “huge logo”.

There are remarkable options among Polestar's future models. These models include the Polestar 2026, a stylish four-door gran turer planned to be released in 5, and the limited-edition Polestar 6 roadster.

As a result, Polestar's design approach attracts attention by prioritizing minimalist and functional design. Nahum Escobedo's perspective offers interesting clues about how electric vehicle design may take shape in the future.
