While the repercussions of Tesla's recent layoff decisions continue, it has taken a remarkable step in the Turkish market. The US electric car manufacturer has opened the low Special Consumption Tax (SCT) version of Model Y, the only model it offers for sale in Turkey, for pre-order.

The price of the rear-wheel drive Model Y, which falls within the 10 percent Special Consumption Tax bracket, was determined as 1 million 791 thousand 451 TL. Tesla, which entered Turkey in March 2023, exhibited a better sales performance than initially expected and became Turkey's second most preferred electric car with sales of 12 thousand units by the end of the year.
However, entering 2024, Tesla's sales performance decreased. Only 375 cars were sold in the January-March period. Following this decline, it is stated that Tesla aims to strengthen its position in the market with Model Y, which has a low SCT.
Tesla Turkey announced that they have given importance to infrastructure works since their entry into Turkey and as a result, they have introduced a new version of Model Y to the market.
Special Consumption Tax for electric cars is determined according to the engine power of the vehicle. With a change made in November 2023, electric cars with a tax-free price below 1 million 450 thousand liras and an engine power below 160 kW fall into the 10 percent Special Consumption Tax bracket. It is reported that in order for Tesla's Model Y to enter this category, its engine power has been updated and its battery has also been updated.
With these updates, Model Y, which falls into the 10 percent Special Consumption Tax bracket, will have a range of 430 km (WLTP). Rear wheel drive version of the car, It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and its top speed is announced as 217 km/h.
In Turkey, electric cars with a retail price of up to 1 million 914 thousand TL can remain in the 10 percent Special Consumption Tax bracket. Therefore, in order to buy Model Y at a low price, the exterior color should be white and the interior color should be black, which is the standard color. In addition, factors such as color selection and the autopilot feature in the car also affect the SCT rate.
