Stoffel Vandoorne will race with Peugeot 9×8 at Fuji

Due to an injury to Nico Muller in the #94 Hypercar, Peugeot has included Formula E champion Stoffel Vandoorne in its squad for the race at Fuji.

Muller had recently injured his left collarbone, putting his time on track at Fuji at risk. The decision taken after the last health screening was that Muller would not compete in Fuji in order to ensure a smooth recovery process.

Vandoorne last competed in the WEC in Bahrain, the final race of the 2021 season; however, Fuji will be his first race in the Hypercar class.

Peugeot team boss Olivier Jansonnie said: "Unfortunately, Nico will not be able to take to the track in this race, we wish him a speedy recovery." said.

“We have full confidence in Stoffel Vandoorne and know that he can step in quickly and deliver his maximum performance.”

“We are entering the last part of the season, our aim will be to avoid reliability problems in the last two races and compete at the front.

“We will prepare as best we can for these two races and try to be consistent in our performance and race results.” he said.

Vandoorne joined Stellantis at the beginning of the year, became a Peugeot reserve driver and also signed an agreement with DS Penske in Formula E.

He would normally have tested the 9×8 in the rookie test in Bahrain a few months ago, but was unable to participate due to appendicitis.

The other reserve driver within Peugeot is Malthe Jakobsen, who won the "WEC Junior" title in May.
