Alonso: “We want to be ahead of Williams”
Alpine driver Fernando Alonso took the worst grid position of the season, placing 10th in Monza. Alonso said the team needed to improve their straight performance, saying he couldn't understand why Williams was lagging behind.
“We knew we were going to run into some problems at Monza,” Alonso said. Maybe the remaining races on the calendar are a little more suitable for our characteristics. Maybe we should be a little more optimistic after this race.” said.
Stating that he could not find an air lane in Q3, Alonso said, “But when I saw that there was a 9 second difference between the 0.4th rank driver, it would not have been possible to ascend even with any air lane you can get. So we are in the position we deserve.” said.
Explaining why Monza was so difficult for the team, Alonso said: “I think the track characteristics are definitely not suitable for our car. It's a very aerodynamically efficient track, the drag level is very important here, there are only six corners, the rest is straight."
“We knew it would be a tough weekend,” Alonso said. We confirmed that feeling in practice 1, practice 2 and this morning.” said.
Stating that he is hopeful for the race, Alonso said, “We also have nothing to lose. We are in 10th place. So if something happens in the race, if everything goes wrong, you'll be 13 or 14th, which isn't much of a loss. said.
“If all goes well, maybe you could be in the top six or the top seven. So let's hope for something, some movement tomorrow and especially in the first corner ahead." said.
