The 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT was unveiled during Monterey Car Week last week and has undergone fundamental changes compared to the previous generation. The new GT is now twinned with the AMG SL convertible, offering a larger, more practical and more luxurious look. This change reflects the features that AMG GT customers want.

Former Mercedes-AMG GT zamThe moment has been considered a competitor to the Porsche 911, and the Porsche 911 has long been considered an ideal everyday sports car. The AMG GT, on the other hand, rivaled the 911 in terms of performance. However, the GT couldn't keep up with the 911 in everyday usage scenarios. The new generation GT aims to change this situation.
The second-generation GT is based on the same MSA platform as the AMG-exclusive SL, resulting in more traditional proportions and a wider body structure. The engine is positioned completely at the front and presents a different appearance compared to the front-mid position of the previous version. Wilde notes that customers have asked why the new GT looks more compact, but actually the GT is longer, wider and taller.
In terms of overall interior design, the GT is almost identical to the SL, except that the central touchscreen does not have a curvature function that prevents reflections. Performance seats offered in GT are those shown at launch; Wilde states that these seats have been delayed for the SL, but will be offered in the roadster model in the near future. The seats have more aggressive bolsters and fixed headrests, and while they don't include the massage function of standard seats, they're comfortable enough for long rides.
