NHTSA said it received 12 complaints alleging loss of steering control and power steering on vehicles. Five people complained that the vehicle could not be steered, while seven others said the loss of power caused difficulties in steering. Obviously, this is a serious problem and has the potential to have undesirable consequences if it happens in traffic.

Tesla is also currently being investigated for reports of the steering wheel falling off while driving on Model Y SUVs. NHTSA also states that it has received more than 800 reports of “phantom braking” issues, where Tesla vehicles brake suddenly in response to unseen hazards. On the other hand, the company offered software updates to 1,1 million vehicles in China due to the braking and acceleration problem.
