Returning to F2021 with Alpine in the 1 season, Alonso left the team after two years full of ups and downs and signed with Aston Martin.
Originally his priority was to stay with Alpine, but the team, which at the time included Oscar Piastri, offered Alonso only a one-season contract.
Alonso, who did not accept this offer, managed to destroy all the worries with his new team; he is currently third in the championship with six podiums.

In an interview with the BBC, Fernando Alonso criticized Alpine's stance during contract negotiations. “I didn't feel disrespected, but we started contract negotiations in April and the process took longer than I expected to complete,” Alonso said.
Alonso said that the talks were progressing at a very slow pace and that he had no share in this situation. “I was just ready and quite happy to stay with the team,” he said.
Alonso said that the 2022 vehicle is a fast vehicle and is pleased with its performances and future prospects. “So there are many factors such as the talks not ending in a ballad, nothing we talked about being put down on paper, and various comments about my age,” he said.
Alonso said that's how things go at Alpine, or that's how team principal Otmar Szafnauer works. “Actually, he should be quiet after this year and not even speak at all,” he said.
