McLaren plans to launch the P1's successor in electric.

Since the launch of the P2012 in 1, the British firm has often voiced through different executives that a significant change in technology will be needed for a successor to the hypercar to come.

However, advances in battery-electric technologies now and over the next decade make such a model more likely than ever before.

When asked whether the top McLaren model was developed to compete with models like the all-electric Porsche Mission X, company CEO Michael Leiters replied, "We're pretty busy, yes." said.

Leiters said electric vehicles, along with internal combustion engines and hybrids, are one of the three pillars of McLaren's powertrain development strategy, and that these systems will account for 90 percent of McLaren's sales over the next five years.

However, Leiters said the company is "not sure" about electric supercars at the moment. Emphasizing that weight is the main reason, Leiters stated that they do not want to build a vehicle that weighs 2000 kg and has 2000 hp, and that this is not in McLaren's DNA.
