McLaren has extended his contract for another year with Jake Hughes, who performed well in his first season since entering Formula E. Hughes has yet to win despite two pole positions this season, but finished the season in 12th place.
McLaren team principal Ian James said: “We are very happy to continue with Jake. He had a great rookie season and impressed the team. We look forward to picking up where we left off and doing even better next year.” said.
Hughes said: “I am very happy to continue with McLaren. I enjoy every minute I spend here and my commitment to the team and Formula E is endless.” said.
McLaren's other driver, Rene Rast, will leave the team. Three-time DTM champion Rast has been on the podium only once this season, placing eight points behind Hughes in the drivers' championship.
In a statement from the team, "Rene has been an integral part of the team's success and learning in our first season. However, he has made the difficult decision to pursue other opportunities and as a team we fully support his decision. We can't thank him enough for everything he's done for the team over the past year." statements were included.
It is not yet clear who will replace Rast, with the strongest candidate being Sam Bird, who left Jaguar.
