Ford to build $900 million cathode manufacturing facility in Canada

Ford Motor Company, together with its South Korean partners EcoProBM and SK On, announced that it will build a $900 million cathode manufacturing facility in Canada. The facility will be used to supply battery materials for Ford's future electric vehicles.

The facility will be built in Bécancour, located between Montreal and Québec City, in the Canadian province of Québec. The facility, which is planned to start production in the first half of 2026, is expected to have an annual capacity of approximately 45,000 tons of cathode active material (KAM).

The facility will operate as part of Ford's strategy to accelerate battery and raw material processing in regions where it produces electric vehicles. Ford hopes this facility will help create a closed-loop battery manufacturing supply chain in North America to make electric vehicles more accessible to millions of people.

Bev Goodman, President and CEO of Ford Canada, said: “Ford has served customers in Canada for 119 years, longer than any other automaker. And we are excited to invest in this new facility to create a closed-loop battery manufacturing supply chain in North America to make electric vehicles more accessible to millions of people.”

Lisa Drake, Ford Model e's vice president of EV Industrialization, said, “This facility is operated by Ford Motor Co. Co. across North America. We see it as very important. As important as this facility is to us, it's as important to Canada as it is." said.
