Turkey's choice is SUV: Market share continues to increase

When we look at the numbers around the world, we see that SUV models are now mostly preferred in cars.

SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) cars, which can be used in different terrain conditions as well as on asphalt, offer a wide range of driving conditions.

According to the information of the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), sales increased by 2024 percent in the January-March 33,05 period compared to the same period last year, reaching 233 thousand 389.

One in every two vehicles sold is an SUV

The most preferred body type in the car market in the January-March period was SUV body type cars with a 51,7 percent share and 120 thousand 699 sales.

Thus, one in every two vehicles sold in the automotive market was recorded as an SUV.

SUV cars were followed by sedans with 28,5 percent share and 66 thousand 451 sales, and hatchback cars with 18,1 percent share and 42 thousand 145 sales. Other sales consisted of "MPV, CDV, sports and station wagon" body types.

SUV cars, which took the top spot from the sedan in January 2022, continued to be the most preferred body type in line with increasing interest and customer demand.

In the January-March period of last year, the share of SUV cars was recorded at 46,6 percent, the share of sedan cars was 29,9 percent and the share of hatchback cars was 21,3 percent.
