Mercedes lowers its electric vehicle target

German luxury manufacturer Mercedes is revising its electric vehicle goals. The company plans to change its aim to offer new electric-only models from 2030, so that electric and hybrid vehicles will account for half of its total sales.

While Mercedes-Benz experienced a decrease in its profits in the 2023 fiscal year, there was an increase in the profits of the light commercial vehicles department. The company is experiencing some difficulties in the transition to electric vehicles and continues to generate revenue from models with internal combustion engines.

Mercedes-Benz, whose electric vehicle sales are below the plan in 2023, is reviewing its strategy.

The company plans to change its goal of selling new electric models starting from 2030 and make electric and hybrid vehicles account for half of total sales. Mercedes-Benz wanted to obtain more than 2023 percent of its sales from completely electric cars in 20.

However, the Stuttgart-based company was only able to obtain a 12 percent electric share of the nearly two million cars delivered last year.
