WHAT CAUSES GAS PAINS IN BABIES? 

1-Pacifier use should not be started until the baby gets used to sucking the mother's breast.

2-The pacifier should never be put into anyone else's mouth, including parents and caregivers.

3-To help the baby get used to the pacifier, to make it easier for him to fall asleep, or because it may be beneficial for his health; The pacifier should not be given to the baby after being dipped in honey or molasses. Falling asleep with a sugary food in the baby's mouth is one of the main causes of severe caries called 'early childhood caries'.

4-In order to increase the baby's fruit consumption and make it easier for him to take vitamins; Giving it to the baby by placing it in pacifiers with a chamber may increase the risk of early tooth loss in babies with a high risk of caries. In babies who enjoy consuming fruit through a pacifier, the sugar in fruits increases the risk of caries by remaining in the oral environment where caries bacteria are present for longer than when fed with a spoon.

5-When choosing a pacifier, pacifiers that do not contain Bisphenol-A (BPA) should be preferred. In particular, the use of BPA in products produced for babies is banned in many countries due to its harmful effects on reproductive health.

6- Orthodontic pacifiers, produced in accordance with the mouth structure, are pacifiers that imitate the mother's nipple and are marketed with the claim that they will have less impact on jaw development and tooth alignment. It can be considered as a new alternative for parents, but it is not correct to say that it can prevent the disorders caused by classical pacifiers in the mouth structure. These pacifiers can only be preferred within the recommended usage periods.

7- Bacteria and microorganism retention on the pacifier surfaces that fall out of the mouth and are taken back into the mouth or are not cleaned correctly and frequently; It can cause local infections such as fungus in the mouth and serious diseases in the gastrointestinal system. Specially produced sterilizers can be used to clean pacifiers; Boiling it for 5 minutes every two days will also be sufficient.

8-Latex pacifiers should not be preferred due to the risk of latex allergy and because bacterial retention is higher than pacifiers made from other materials.
