Stellantis and Valeo Introduce Windshield Mounted Video Camera

As part of their circular economy strategy collaboration, Stellantis and Valeo introduced the first windshield-mounted video camera remanufactured at Valeo's Circular Electronics Laboratory in Nevers.

Stellantis and Valeo, one of the world's largest mobility companies, introduced the first windshield-mounted video camera, reproduced in Valeo's Circular Electronics Laboratory in Nevers, as part of their circular economy strategy collaboration.

Stellantis and Valeo, who have been in partnership for a long time, create financial value together while protecting natural resources. Stellantis aims to be a “Net Zero Carbon” company in the industry by 2038. "Remanufacturing" stands out as one of the main driving forces within the scope of the Circular Economy, which plays an important role in the company strategy in achieving this goal.

Remanufacturing is a standardized industrial process that extends the life of a used product, restoring it to its original performance and functionality. In addition, remanufactured products offer the same warranty as new parts, while ensuring consistent quality and performance. This reliability makes remanufacturing a key component of both companies' circular economy strategy.

Leveraging its global footprint, Valeo has 40 years of deep experience in the remanufacturing of mechanical products. The company's remanufacturing portfolio includes a program for all brands; It includes starter motors, alternators, dual mass flywheel, brake calipers, torque converters, heavy duty clutches, air conditioning compressors and wet double clutches. Valeo currently remanufactures one million products per year and aims to further increase its impact by doubling this capacity by 2030.

Stellantis offers remanufactured automotive spare parts in a rich range of 37 parts in 13 different product groups through its SUSTAINera brand. The company's product range includes; There are starter motor, alternator, clutch, turbocharger, injector, brake caliper, electronic control module, control unit, multimedia, SCR tank, transmission, engine and high voltage battery types for electric vehicles.

Valeo has the richest product range among Stellantis' remanufacturing suppliers, covering 6 product families. Stellantis and Valeo plan to continue expanding their product range, placing remanufacturing innovation at the forefront of the electrification and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) revolutions. Valeo established the Cyclic Electronics Laboratory facility in Nevers in 2022, focusing on a unique remanufacturing approach in terms of fast, quality product development, testing and delivery.

Collaborating with Stellantis, Valeo introduced the remanufactured video camera to the market within a year, saving up to 99 percent of natural resources compared to new ones. This camera, the first of its kind produced by Valeo, has the same 2-year warranty as a new part and offers the same performance.

Stellantis is the first automaker to add this technology to its aftermarket solutions, making it the pioneer of a completely new ADAS-specific product line in the SUSTAINera European Reman series, which currently covers 38 different product lines. SUSTAINera brand, which covers Stellantis' circular economy spare parts solutions, provides savings of up to 80 percent in raw materials and up to 50 percent in carbon emissions compared to equivalent new parts.

Valeo is the first supplier to use the new security labels that prominently display the SUSTAINera logo. Stellantis has also launched a sustainable packaging solution for remanufactured parts. Valeo is the first company to apply the newly designed SUSTAINera eco-packaging for Reman camcorders. The packaging is made from multiple recycled materials and designed to be reused, promoting sustainability both inside and out. There is also no single-use plastic, in line with future EU legislation on reducing, reusing and recycling.

A skilled workforce with the necessary expertise is a crucial element to accelerate the circular economy and expand remanufacturing to bring more sustainable products to market. Stellantis and Valeo are therefore investing in the development and upskilling of employees through initiatives such as Valeo's Circular Electronics Laboratory in Nevers, France, and Stellantis' first SUSTAINera Circular Economy Centre, which opened on 23 November at its Mirafiori facility in Italy.

Commenting on the subject, Global Circular Economy Senior Vice President Alison Jones said, “Stellantis and Valeo set a great example of a sustainable future and offer remanufactured products based on supplier-customer cooperation. “Together, we are determined to achieve our zero carbon goal and ensure sustainability for our customers, employees, our company and our planet.” said.

Mino Yamamoto, Valeo Group Circular Economy Director, said: “Valeo constantly pushes the limits to develop innovative solutions that promote the circular economy, with the vision of contributing to preserving the resources of our planet. “Thanks to the increased skills of our employees at the Circular Economy Laboratory in Nevers and the successful collaboration with Stellantis, we are proud to expand our “Remanufacturing” product range with remanufactured camcorders for the first time.” made his assessment.
