Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay published a statement on the occasion of the arrival of 2024 and wished that the new year would bring good things. Stating that they spent the year 2023 in a hard work pace with the vision of Konya Model Municipality, Mayor Altay said, “Under the leadership of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, we will continue our efforts to carry both our city and our country to much brighter horizons. Konya will continue to rise in every field and become the shining star of our country in 2024. "I would like to thank all my fellow citizens who always stand shoulder to shoulder with us and provide us with unity," he said.

President Altay's message is as follows:
“We have left behind another year, with all its bitterness and sweetness. Every new year is a year in which we take stock of the past, add new experiences to our experience, and raise the standards of our city much higher. We spent the year 2023 with a hard work pace to continue the rise of Konya in every field, in the light of our Konya Model Municipality vision.
In February, we were shaken by earthquakes that caused great destruction in 11 provinces and left us all in deep grief. This great disaster, in which we lost thousands of lives, left traces that will never be erased from our memories. We also spent all our means and strength to heal the wounds of our brothers in the earthquake zone.
While we were healing the wounds of our brothers in Hatay, we also continued to sweat for our city. In this regard, we opened and laid the foundations of 36 buildings throughout Konya in the spring. In this process, we also laid the foundation of the KONYARAY Suburban Line, which is a turning point in the transportation history of Konya. Production of our Suburban Border continues.
We organized commemoration programs and different events in our city, throughout our country and abroad within the scope of the Mevlana Year declared by our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. We successfully carried the title of 2023 World Sports Capital by hosting many international matches. We hosted a historical program that shaped the global vision of Konya on the 100th anniversary of our Republic. I took over the term presidency of the organization during the UCLG World Assembly, which we organized in Konya with the participation of nearly 400 local and regional administration representatives from around the world and guests from seven continents. By undertaking this great task, we have presented a pleasant gift to our country and our beloved nation for the 100th anniversary of our Republic.
Last year, we brought together the best examples of our work policy with our fellow citizens. We brought very valuable buildings to our city, such as Darü'l Mulk Stand Palace, Çatalhöyük Promotion and Welcome Center, Warehouse no: 4, Fenni Fırın. In addition, the construction of our projects such as Turkey's first Zero Waste Industrial Site, New Armory, Akyokuş Pavilion Larende Shops, Meydan Residences and Velespit Museum is about to be completed. In order to ease the traffic of Konya, we brought 1 bridge junctions to our city with a total cost of 4 billion lira. We provided the underpasses at Sedirler Köprülü Junction last month. Our intersection has also been opened to overhead crossings. Work continues on Fırat Street Bridge Interchange, City Hospital Front Bridge Interchange and Taşköprü Underpass. After the Abdülhamid Han, İsmail Ketenci, Celaleddin Karatay, Alparslan Türkeş, Kazakhstan and Karabağ streets, which we previously opened, we are bringing Necmettin Erbakan Street to our city. We continue infrastructure investments in 31 districts through KOSKİ.
Hopefully, as Konya, we will continue to contribute to the Turkish Century with our work in 2024. Under the leadership of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, we will continue our efforts to carry both our city and our country to much brighter horizons. Konya will continue to rise in every field and become the shining star of our country in 2024. I would like to thank all my fellow citizens who always stand shoulder to shoulder with us and provide us with unity. I hope that in 2024, the bloodshed all over the world, especially in Gaza, will stop and the scourge of terrorism in our country will end. I commemorate with respect and gratitude all our heroes who marched to martyrdom for the survival and inseparable integrity of our country. May God grant them paradise.
