Alfa Romeo's Electric SUV is Coming to Tonale!

Alfa Romeo is counting the days to introduce its new model, Tonale, which will intensify the competition in the compact SUV segment. In addition to being the brand's first rechargeable hybrid model, Tonale signals that it may also have a full electric version.

What are Tonale's Engine Options?

Tonale will be offered to customers with different engine options when it hits the market. These include diesel, gasoline mild hybrid and rechargeable hybrid engines. The rechargeable hybrid engine will be a technology that the brand will use for the first time. This engine will consist of a combination of a 1.3-liter turbo gasoline engine and an electric motor and will produce 240 horsepower. In addition, thanks to this engine, Tonale will be able to travel up to 50 kilometers completely electric.

However, Tonale's engine options may not be limited to these. Alfa Romeo hinted that there may be a fully electric version of the Tonale with a teaser it published recently. In the teaser, “E-VOLUTION” can be seen above the front grille of the Tonale. This shows that the brand has entered a new era for electric vehicles.

What is the Full Electric Tonale? ZamWill it be the moment?

Alfa Romeo has not yet made an official statement about the fully electric Tonale. However, at a launch in America last year, Product Manager Daniel Tiago Guzzafame said, “A fully electric model is technically possible thanks to the architecture of the vehicle, but we have no such plans at the moment.” The striking point here was the expression "at the moment". This suggests that the brand may have such a plan in the future.

Of course, this can only be a guess. Perhaps Alfa Romeo is preparing a more powerful QV model for the Tonale. This shows that the brand is not forgotten for performance enthusiasts either. However, the mention of a new era in the teaser indicates more than just a QV model.

What is Alfa Romeo's Electric Vehicle Strategy?

Alfa Romeo also wants to be assertive in the electric vehicle market. Therefore, alongside the Tonale, it is also developing a smaller electric SUV model. This model is currently called Brennero and shares the same platform with the Jeep Avenger and Peugeot e-2008. Brennero will be launched in 2024 and will be positioned below Tonale.

Alfa Romeo aims to preserve the DNA of the brand along with electric vehicles. Therefore, electric vehicles will also have Alfa Romeo's characteristic design, driving dynamics and emotional features.
