Toyota entered the luxury SUV market with the Century SUV.

Toyota stepped into the world of luxury automobiles with a brand new model: Century SUV. This sleek SUV is often referred to as the Japanese version of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and could become even more special with a production projection of just 30 units per month.

While it bears some similarities to other Toyota and Lexus SUVs, it surpasses them all when it comes to luxury, and of course the price is pretty serious too. The price of the Century SUV is 25,000,000 JPY (Japanese Yen), which is approximately equivalent to 170,000 USD.

In terms of size, the Century SUV is quite impressive. It has a length of 5205 millimeters, a width of 1990 mm and a height of 1805 mm. Interestingly, it is shorter but wider than its sedan sibling, the Century, and carries four people instead of five. The vehicle, which has a wide (2950 mm) wheelbase, has a very solid weight (2,570 kilograms).

The TNGA platform is the basis of the Century SUV, but improvements have been made to increase the rigidity of the body and increase driving comfort. Toyota uses laminate windows on the cabin side of the cargo compartment separator to block out noise from fully reclining seats in the cabin. There is also a “Rear Comfort” mode that distributes driving and braking forces to avoid disturbing rear passengers.

At the heart of the new Century is a 3.5-liter V6 engine with CVT transmission and a rechargeable hybrid powertrain offering all-wheel drive with a rear-mounted electric motor. Producing 406 horsepower (303 kilowatts), this system has the same power as the Lexus TX 550h+. However, some car enthusiasts may be waiting for the 5.0-liter V8 engine found in the sedan version.
