Ford Mustang GTD, now fastest Ford on the Nürburgring

The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD is a special racing-inspired vehicle. It is on display at “The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering” event held during Monterey Auto Week. In interviews with Greg Goodall, Ford's Chief Engineer for Model Year 2024 Performance Vehicles, and Omar Odeh, Group Product Marketing Manager, details were discussed about the latest evolution of the brand's pony model.

“This is an estimate,” Goodall said, adding: “We haven't officially run a lap. We did a very comprehensive computer simulation. But we haven't tried the car on the track yet." “This would potentially be the fastest Ford we ever took to the Nürburgring,” Odeh said.

However, it's important to note that there aren't many Fords with the GTD's performance level. The most recently unveiled Ford GT supercar stands out as the best model to compare. Unfortunately, Ford did not officially take its mid-engined flagship to the Nürburgring and did not set a lap time.

According to Odeh, the Ford GTD is taking on the Porsche 911 GT2 RS and Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series. But this Mustang won't be content with just breaking the 7-minute barrier.

The GT2 RS rounded the Nürburgring in 2017 minutes 6 seconds in September 47.3. Using Manthey Racing upgrades, he set a new record of 2021:6 in June 41. The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series toured the track in 2020:6 in November 43.61. While Odeh is talking about this model, the latest Porsche GT3 RS can sprint around the track in 6:49.328.

Odeh believes the Ford GTD can go below the 7-minute barrier at the Nürburgring. This would make the Mustang one of the fastest production cars on the Nürburgring.
