Lewis Hamilton's chance for eighth championship
Lewis Hamilton has won six championships so far in the turbo hybrid engine era that began in 2014. The British pilot managed to break the all-time record for the number of pole positions (104), victories (103) and podiums (195), while also matching Michael Schumacher's record of seven championships.
During his dominant period from 2014-20, Hamilton was only defeated by Nico Rosberg in 2016. But things started to turn around in 2021, and while Red Bull took the lead, Hamilton could not get the results he wanted, especially in the last 1.5 years.
It is known that Hamilton, who took his last victory in 2021, wants his eighth championship. But Sir Jackie Stewart thinks Hamilton is too old now and is unlikely to win an eighth title.
Stewart, a three-time Formula 1 world champion, said the following in his statement to the German site Sport.de:
“First of all, I agree that Lewis is one of the best drivers of all time. But it is also true that for the last ten years he has been racing for Mercedes, which is almost in a different class compared to the others.”
“Except for 2016, he always won the intra-team fights with his teammate. He lost to Nico Rosberg in 2016, he was a good driver but not the most talented in the world.”
“Unlike Lewis, Rosberg was more hungry and really wanted the title.”
"I don't think Lewis can win his eighth championship, his car is not as strong as before."
"Also, despite the rumors about Ferrari, I don't think he will change teams again."
Stewart's views may disappoint Hamilton's fans. However, Stewart is a name that has spent many years in Formula 1 and won many championships. So his views provide an important insight into Hamilton's chances of an eighth title.
