Toyota's production system failure in Japan

Japanese automotive giant Toyota announced today that it is suspending operations at all 14 assembly plants in Japan due to production system failure. This brought the domestic production of the world's best-selling automaker to a standstill.

A spokesperson for the company stated that the disruption prevented Toyota from ordering parts, the reason for this is being investigated and there is no possibility of a cyber attack for now. It is not yet clear how much the Japanese manufacturer will lose from this disruption, but it is predicted that production can be resumed from Wednesday.

Toyota's domestic production started to recover after disruptions caused by the shortage of semiconductors, showing an increase of 29% in the January-June period for the first time in two years. According to Reuters, Toyota's factories in Japan account for about a third of its global production. It is stated that the production is around 13.500 vehicles per day in the first half of the year.

Today's event not only affected Toyota's assembly plants, but also its subsidiaries. Toyota Industries was forced to partially suspend operations at two engine plants due to the ripple effect of the automaker's fault.
