Former Formula 1 driver Jerome D'Ambrosio joined Mercedes this March after two years as team principal in Formula E. The Belgian is taking on the role of driver development director, which was vacated following the departure of James Vowles. Also, D'Ambrosio acts as Wolff's right-hand man, following all sessions with Mercedes' boss.

Wolff has announced that the name that will serve as team principal in races that he cannot participate in this year or later will be the former Belgian driver. The Austrian team principal has so far only missed the 2019 Brazilian and 2022 Japanese GPs.

“If I'm absent at a race weekend, Jerome will take my place,” Wolff told Auto Hebdo.

“It's true that this has only happened three times in 11 years, but it's something we need to anticipate now. “

“Now he needs to gain credibility within the team and on the paddock. enough in front zamthere is a moment. If I can't get there, he will replace me," he said.

D'Ambrosio has been one of the names around Toto in recent years. He was the right-hand man of Toto's wife, Susie Wolff, at Venturi in the seventh and eighth seasons of Formula E. He was later promoted to the position of team principal.

“Jérome did a fantastic job as team principal at Venturi last year,” Toto said.

“Of course it was a smaller structure that had little to do with ours since we were 2.500 people. He's involved with us this year, and most of his interventions are very good.”

“The most important thing is zamWe got to know him for the moment, but I got the impression that he has the right profile for the team principal role.” said.
