The first sizes of the new UltraContact NXT presented by Continental will soon be in dealers. Continental's new premium tire UltraContact NXT is made of up to 65 percent renewable, recycled and ISCC PLUS mass balance certified materials. All sizes have the best EU tire label values for rolling resistance, wet braking and external noise.

Premium tire manufacturer and technology company Continental has started the production of UltraContact NXT, the most sustainable serial tire it has ever developed, at its Portuguese Lousado factory. Made from up to 65 percent renewable, recycled and mass balance certified materials, the new summer tire combines highly sustainable materials with maximum safety and performance. In addition, all sizes carry the highest EU tire label (“A”) rating for rolling resistance, wet braking and exterior noise.

The rubber compound contains bio-based silica from agricultural waste.

32 percent of UltraContact NXT is made up of renewable materials. It contains resins from waste materials from the rubber, paper and wood industries, and silicate derived from rice husk ash. Rice husk is an agricultural waste product that can be converted into silica in a new, less energy-consuming process. As with every tire, the basic material of UltraContact NXT is natural rubber. It continues to be the indispensable raw material of the tire, as it provides the highest tire performance characteristics thanks to its high level of strength and durability.

The “contains recycled materials” logo on the sidewall of the UltraContact NXT underlines the use of recycled materials in this tire range. The proportion of recycled material can be up to 5 percent. This ratio includes recycled rubber material obtained from the mechanical treatment of end-of-life tires. Continental also uses recycled steel in the UltraContact NXT. The innovative ContiRe.Tex technology introduced earlier is also available in the UltraContact NXT pattern. This technology reinforces the tire carcass with high-performance polyester fibers obtained from pet bottles in incinerators or landfills. The ContiRe.Tex technology developed by Continental is a more energy efficient and environmentally friendly alternative where 9-15 plastic bottles are recycled for each tire, depending on the tire size.

Mass Balance Certified Materials: Synthetic Rubber and Industrial Carbon Black

Continental uses up to 28 percent ISCC PLUS mass balance certified materials in the UltraContact NXT tire. These are materials such as sustainable synthetic rubber and carbon black produced from bio-based, bio-circular and/or circular raw materials. ISCC PLUS certification of the balance mechanism provides transparency and traceability throughout the supply chain by monitoring raw material origin and characteristics, verifying compliance with sustainable criteria and certifying products.

The target is to use 2050% sustainable materials in all tires by 100.

Continental works tirelessly to develop innovative technologies and sustainable products and services throughout the entire value chain, from the sourcing of sustainable materials to the recycling of end-of-life tires. The premium tire manufacturer aims to reach over 2030 percent renewable and recycled content in its tires by 40. Continental continues to move towards its goal of using 2050% sustainable materials in all tire products by 100 at the latest. UltraContact NXT is an important step towards achieving these ambitious sustainability goals and becoming the most innovative tire manufacturer as outlined in the Vision 2030 strategy programme.

Suitable for different vehicle models on all drive types
