Kia Rio has been discontinued in the USA

Kia has decided to end production of its budget car Rio in the United States. With this decision, the Rio will no longer be offered in the US market.

Kia officials, in a statement to Automotive News, stated that the Rio will not be available for sale after the 2023 model year. This came after Hyundai made a similar decision last year, removing the Accent model from its product range after the 2022 model year.

The fact that automobile consumers have recently turned to crossover and SUV models shows that such preferences lead to changes in the automobile market. Therefore, at a time when the popularity of sedan models is declining, it is not surprising that production of another sedan model is also discontinued. On a positive note, however, the larger Forte model holds its place in the market.

In order to simplify the sedan models in the USA, Kia also removed the Cadenza and K2020 models from its product range after the 900 model year. In addition, the sporty model Stinger is withdrawn from production globally, but the "Tribute Edition" will be offered as the last special version of the model.

In other markets, Kia introduced the next-generation K3 to replace the Rio model. However, this nomenclature was previously used for the larger Forte model. This time the name K3 is used as a direct successor to the Rio Sedan. Close zamThis new model, which was introduced at the moment, has a completely different design inside and out. However, no definite statement has been made about whether this new model will come to the US market.

On the other hand, a report published by Autocar magazine in February claimed that Kia is considering ending the Rio model in the European market as well. In this case, the Stonic subcompact crossover model will be positioned as the model that fills the Rio's void.
