Carlos Sainz is the Ferrari driver whose contract expires at the end of the 2023 season. Sainz intends to sign his new contract later this year.
Sainz's request is important for him and Ferrari. In the final year of his contract, Sainz wants to be able to clarify his plans for next season. Ferrari, on the other hand, want to keep Sainz on its roster for next season.
Sainz expressed his views on this issue as follows:
“I will not lie; I don't like going into the last year of my contract not knowing where I'm going to race next year. I've been through this process at both Red Bull and Renault and I know it's not great as an athlete and a driver. This is not the right thing. That's why this winter is right to shape my future zamI set the moment.”
Ferrari CEO Mattia Binotto said he agreed with Sainz's request. Binotto stated that they want to reach an agreement with Sainz before the season ends.
“I can say that we agree with Carlos on this. We have faced the same question many times and every zamwe give the same answer; to meet zamWe have a moment, we still have an 18-month contract ahead of us.”
“Both sides want to start next season with a clear situation. That means we have to act and make a decision before the season ends.”
“We have four or five months to decide. But we agree with Carlos and his manager on this. We will see you soon.”
Talks between Sainz and Ferrari are expected to conclude in the coming months.
