A record was broken in electric vehicle charging during the holiday

Berkan Bayram, President of the Turkish Electric and Hybrid Vehicles Association (TEHAD), said that with the interest shown in Turkey's automobile Togg, the number of electric cars has exceeded 90 thousand and the number of charging sockets has approached 20 thousand.

Bayram stated that during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, electric vehicle drivers inspected charging stations on their routes before setting off and followed the recommendations such as frequent charging at 70 percent instead of full charging, and stated that charging services were carried out without any problems during this period.

Bayram stated that this year a successful test was carried out in terms of electric vehicle density and rechargeability and said:

“In the past, there were some question marks about electric vehicles and charging stations and concerns about the adequacy of these stations. There were concerns that if a reasonable number of cars were charged at a certain point, the grid could collapse and serious problems would occur in the electricity grid.

As TEHAD, we have tried to explain this for years. This is not an issue unique to our country. There are 12 million electric vehicles in the world. This type of problem has not been experienced in any region. Türkiye has successfully completed its mission in the electric charging station network during the Eid al-Fitr holiday. During this period, electric car users did not have any problems with electric charging on their routes.”

Bayram noted that the charging network investment support package announced by the Ministry of Industry and Technology has an accelerating effect on the expansion of investments in this field.

“35-40 THOUSAND NUMBER OF CHARGING SOCKETS WILL BE REACHED BY THE END OF THE YEAR”

Stating that the Eid period was very productive in terms of utilizing the electric vehicle charging infrastructure, Berkan Bayram emphasized that the interest in electric vehicles has increased in Turkey and the demand for charging station investments will also increase.

Bayram stated that it is estimated that the number of charging sockets will reach 35-40 thousand across Türkiye by the end of the year.

Pointing out that next year will be a critical year for the electric vehicle charging network, Bayram concluded his words as follows:

“There is a need for charging infrastructure investments for more electric vehicles. No worries with an electric charging station. This holiday provided electric car users with a long and crowded travel experience. We had no problems. We saw that 1000 electric cars were charged simultaneously across Türkiye. This is a record. In addition, some charging station companies applied a discounted price tariff of nearly 50 percent during the holiday.

Electric car users turned to certain brands. This situation set an example for other brands. “Probably all other brands will also launch campaigns.”
