Cooperation between ASAT and Malta

Antalya Metropolitan Municipality ASAT General Directorate hosted the delegation from Malta within the framework of the European Union-supported "Improving Efficiency and Reliability in Urban Water Supply Systems to Combat Climate Change" project. Within the scope of the project, studies will be carried out to control water losses in drinking water supply and distribution systems. Antalya Metropolitan Municipality is a partner and supported by the European Union and the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change of the Republic of Turkey. The project titled "Development" was accepted in December 2023. Within the scope of the project, studies will be carried out in three pilot areas in Antalya to control water losses in drinking water supply and distribution systems. While Akdeniz University is the coordinator of the project, Antalya General Directorate of Water and Wastewater Administration (ASAT), Malta Water and Energy Agency and Malta Water Services Corporation are the partners of the project. ASAT officials, Malta Delegation and academicians from Akdeniz University started working within the scope of the project, which will last 18 months. JOINT WORK TO FIGHT AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE ASAT hosted the delegation from Malta for the project. A project meeting was held with the delegation. The meeting was attended by Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Chief Advisor Dr. Cem Oguz, Prof. Dr. Habib Muhammetoğlu, Prof. Dr. Ayşe Muhammetoğlu, ASAT Deputy General Manager Ümit Daban and Malta Energy and Water Ministry Deputy General Manager Manuel Sapiano attended. Metropolitan Mayor Chief Advisor Cem Oğuz said, “This project is a very important initiative for our city. As Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, we have created our infrastructure. We work together with all our units to combat climate change. I think this project will be very beneficial to our city. "I hope it will be beneficial," he said. THE AIM IS TO PREVENT WATER LOSSES ASAT SCADA Branch Manager Dr. Tuğba Akdeniz said that the subject of the project is drought and climate and that the project is very valuable for the struggle on this issue. Akdeniz said, “Within the scope of the project, it is aimed to correctly direct water losses in drinking water networks and reduce carbon emissions. We create 3 sub-regions in the Antalya drinking water network and collect data in these sub-regions based on the SCADA system. MALTESE MINISTER IS SATISFIED WITH THE COOPERATION Manuel Sapiano, Deputy Director General of the Malta Ministry of Energy and Water, said: “Water resources have been rapidly depleted, especially in the last 20 years. We want to prevent this. The general theme of the project is reducing losses in drinking water systems. We want to monitor and evaluate new approaches and methods that may emerge in network efficiency, and measure and improve network performance with performance indicators. Within the scope of the project, we want to put forward better practices and share our experiences with technical cooperation. I am very pleased that we are in cooperation with Antalya Metropolitan Municipality.” 3 WORKSHOPS WILL BE HELD Within the scope of the project, studies will be carried out in three pilot areas in Antalya to control water losses in drinking water supply and distribution systems. Three workshops will be held for the employees of water institutions and municipalities for training and experience sharing. It is also planned to prepare materials such as handbooks and brochures explaining the project.
