Ampere Takes Its Place in the Global Market with the Support of Nissan and Mitsubishi!

Ampere, Renault's electric vehicle (EV) unit, is preparing to expand into markets outside Europe with major investments from Japanese partners Nissan and Mitsubishi. This development, announced on Wednesday, shows that the alliance of Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi is pursuing a more logical and regional strategy.

Nissan and Mitsubishi Invest €800 Million in Ampere

Nissan and Mitsubishi announced that they will invest €600 million and €200 million in Renault's EV unit Ampere. This investment will go directly to Ampere, not Renault. Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida said the move was a “strategic” step to increase Nissan's competitiveness in markets outside Europe.

Ampere to Produce New Models for Nissan and Mitsubishi

Ampere will develop new electric vehicle models for Nissan and Mitsubishi. Ampere will design a fully electric Micra model for Nissan and a C-segment SUV model for Mitsubishi. Renault CEO Luca de Meo stated that the cost that Nissan needs to spend for the electric Micra will be halved thanks to Ampere. In addition, the vehicles produced by Ampere will also be offered for sale in markets such as Latin America and India.

The Alliance of Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi is Reshaping

The alliance of Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi has undergone a new restructuring in recent months. In September, the three companies canceled joint procurement agreements to focus on their own projects. At the end of July, Nissan and Renault clarified the rules of the new alliance. Nissan acted more cautiously in this process because it wanted to protect its intellectual property rights in future projects.
