Mick Schumacher is Moving to the WEC Hypercar Class with Alpine!

Mick Schumacher, who left Formula 1, will compete in the FIA ​​World Endurance Championship (WEC) with Alpine in 2024. Schumacher will be one of six drivers in Alpine's Hypercar class. Schumacher's father, Michael Schumacher, also took part in endurance races before Formula 1.

Alpine's Hypercar Squad

Alpine will compete in the Hypercar category, the top class of the WEC, in 2024. In this category, it will compete with brands such as BMW and Lamborghini. Alpine announced the six drivers for the Hypercar class last Tuesday. These drivers are:

  • Nicolas lapierre
  • Matthieu Vaxiviere
  • Charles Miles
  • Ferdinand Hapsburg
  • Paul-Loup Chatin

Among these drivers, Lapierre, Vaxiviere and Milesi had worked with Alpine before. Chatin was a member of the Signatech/Alpine team in 2014. Habsburg competed in the LMP2 class with WRT.

The driver combination and design of Alpine's two vehicles in the Hypercar class will be announced at a launch event on February 7.

Mick Schumacher is the most notable name who will race in the WEC Hypercar class with Alpine in 2024. After competing in Formula 2021 with Haas in the 22-1 seasons, Schumacher served as a reserve driver at Mercedes this year. While Schumacher will continue racing with Alpine, he will also maintain his position at Mercedes.

I grew up with single-seat vehicles, so driving a vehicle with a closed cockpit and closed wheels will be a great opportunity to improve my driving skills. I missed competing so much this year; It was something I loved doing since I was a kid, and it was sometimes difficult to watch other drivers take to the track. “Endurance racing is a new challenge for me and I am sure we will share great moments together with Alpine next year.”

Schumacher's father, Michael Schumacher, also took part in endurance races before Formula 1. Schumacher participated in the 1991 Hours of Le Mans with Sauber-Mercedes in 24. Schumacher started racing in Formula 1 with Jordan the same year. Schumacher was a seven-time world champion in Formula 1.
