Skoda's New Generation Superb Officially Introduced
Skoda has finally officially introduced the long-awaited new generation Superb. The fourth generation Superb draws attention with its design, technology and engine options. As Motor1.com Türkiye team, we also took part in the launch and examined the new Superb closely.
Design of the New Superb
The new Superb has not undergone a radical change in terms of design. The fourth generation Superb, which has undergone a transformation reminiscent of a classic VAG make-up, has undergone some changes in its dimensions, although it maintains its wheelbase. For example, the model is now narrower by 15 mm. The liftback version is 43 mm longer and 12 mm higher. In the station wagon version, this change was 40 mm and 5 mm, respectively.
The change in dimensions has paved the way for more headroom in the cabin. Thanks to the same expansion, we can see that the luggage volume has increased by 20 liters in the liftback and 30 liters in the station wagon. Wheel options will vary between 16-19″.
On the front of the new Superb, a grille with sharper lines, new LED headlights and fog lights, a redesigned bumper and new air intakes attract attention. On the rear, new LED taillights, a new bumper, a new exhaust outlet and the Skoda lettering that replaces the Skoda logo on the trunk lid stand out. The new Superb also comes with new color and trim options.
Technology of the New Superb
The new Superb also offers many innovations in terms of technology. The cabin includes features such as a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, an 8 or 9.2-inch touch screen, wireless charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, Wi-Fi hotspot, 360-degree camera system, head-up display, 12-speaker Canton sound system. .
The new Superb is also equipped with safety and driving assistance systems. Systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane tracking assistant, blind spot warning, collision avoidance assistant, parking assistant, traffic sign recognition, emergency assistant, fatigue detection system increase the safety level of the new Superb.
The most interesting innovation of the new Superb is the three radial selectors located on the center console. The pair of these physical keys on the right and left have standard functions. You can easily adjust the middle part of this trio, which Skoda calls "Smart Dials", to control the function you want.
Engine Options of the New Superb
The new Superb also differs with its engine options. In the entry version, we see the mild hybrid supported version of the 1.5 TSI engine. While this version offers only front-wheel drive, it can produce 150 hp. At the next level, the 2.0-liter TSI engine has two options that can produce 204 and 265 hp. These options are available with both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive.
In diesel options, the 2.0-liter TDI engine has three options that can produce 122, 150 and 200 hp. These options can be paired with both manual and DSG transmissions. Additionally, the 150 hp version can also be purchased with four-wheel drive.
The station wagon version will be the only member of the family with a full hybrid option. Combining a 1.5-liter TSI unit with an electric motor, this system can produce 204 hp of power. And yes, your guesses are correct. The system was taken directly from Kodiaq. This means that the engine is paired with a 6-speed DSG.
The 25.7 kWh battery pack enables the vehicle to have an electric range of approximately 100 km. This system can be purchased with both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive.
