BMW Group Joins Tesla's Charging Network

BMW Group announced today that it will use Tesla's charging adapter in its electric and hybrid vehicles in North America. In this way, owners of BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brands will be able to use Tesla's Supercharger stations starting from 2025.

Support for Electric Vehicles from BMW Group

The BMW Group offers six all-electric models in the US market and says there will be more models to come. Stating that it is important for electric vehicle owners to have access to reliable and fast charging opportunities, BMW North America President and CEO Sebastian Mackensen said, "By joining Tesla's charging network, we offer our customers more options."

This decision of the BMW Group will only affect its sales in the USA and Canada. In Europe, the BMW Group will continue to use the CCS style adapter.

How Does Tesla's Charging Network Work?

Tesla's charging network uses an adapter called NACS (North American Charging Standard). This adapter can charge electric vehicles of other brands as well as Tesla vehicles. Tesla's Supercharger stations can be found on the vehicle screen and payments are made through the Tesla application.

With this move by the BMW Group, owners of the BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brands will be able to find Supercharger stations on their vehicle screens and make payments through their own brands' applications.

Other Brands Are Also Adopting NACS Adapter

BMW Group has joined the brands that have adopted the NACS adapter. Companies such as Ford, GM, Rivian, Volvo, Mercedes, Nissan, Jaguar and Hyundai Group also plan to use the NACS adapter.

In this way, electric vehicle owners will be able to use charging stations of different brands and solve the charging problem.

Charging Network Project from BMW Group

The BMW Group also plans to implement its own charging network project. The BMW Group, together with five other automakers, aims to install 30 thousand new charging stations in North America. These stations will support both NACS and CCS adapters.

It is thought that these initiatives of the BMW Group will increase competition in the electric vehicle market and provide a better experience to its customers.
