Mercedes GLE 53 Hybrid: A new giant in the luxury SUV segment

Mercedes added a new and powerful model to the GLE series. This model, called AMG 53 Hybrid, is equipped with a plug-in hybrid engine and offers both performance and efficiency.

AMG 53 Hybrid: Feel the power of hybrid

Mercedes introduced a significant update to the GLE range earlier this year. The powerful AMG Lite version increased its torque to 559 Nm with a larger turbocharger, while maintaining its horsepower at 435 PS.

Now, nearly nine months later, the AMG 53 model is undergoing a major makeover in Europe. This model will now be sold with a plug-in hybrid engine and will be introduced in the US in 2025. The good news is that the internal combustion engine has not been downgraded to four cylinders – which unfortunately happened in the C63.

The new version combines a 3.0-liter inline-six cylinder engine supported by turbocharging with a 135 PS electric motor, producing a total of 543 PS and 750 Nm of torque.

This power increase allows the GLE 53 Hybrid to accelerate from zero to 60 mph (about 96.5 km/h) in just 4.6 seconds, which means it is 0.3 seconds faster than the internal combustion engine model.

The new and powerful version can reach speeds of up to 250 km/h when electronically limited. Mercedes states that you can accelerate to 140 km/h with just the electric motor, without consuming fuel.

AMG 53 Hybrid: Luxury details

The GLE 53 Hybrid is equipped with 21-inch wheels and has 400 mm front discs with six-piston calipers and 370 mm rear discs with single-piston calipers. Apart from the “Hybrid” logos, there are also subtle aerodynamic improvements that distinguish this version from the others. Additionally, changes were made to the MBUX infotainment system and it was updated in accordance with the new hybrid system.

Mercedes has created a new giant in the luxury SUV segment with the GLE 53 Hybrid model. This model will be an ideal option for customers looking for both performance and efficiency.
