Xiaomi starts automobile production
Xiaomi, which we know with its smartphones and technology products, is entering the automobile industry. The company's production facility in Beijing has become operational and the first electric car prototypes are being assembled.
Xiaomi has already started recruiting personnel for the factory. This hiring round is looking for approximately 100 employees. It is stated that the company produces an average of 50 prototypes per week. These will probably be used to smooth out kinks in the production process and for road tests.
Xiaomi may start mass production by the end of the year. In order to take this step, the company must obtain the necessary certificate for electric car production from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and a license from one of the national regulatory bodies. These documents will likely be approved in the fall.
It is stated that the factory will initially have the capacity to produce 150.000 cars annually. Xiaomi has not yet made an official statement about its first electric car. However, spy photos of the vehicle appeared on the internet. We also learned that it will have a 800 kWh capacity battery that offers a range of 101 km.
