Volkswagen Group seeks more control over semiconductor supply

Volkswagen Group has begun directly purchasing semiconductors it believes to be strategically important from 10 manufacturers including NXP Semiconductors, Infineon Technologies and Renesas Electronics.

Previously, Volkswagen Group relied on Tier 1 component suppliers to purchase semiconductors. Suppliers were free to decide which parts they used.

The increasing electrification of vehicles and the growing trend of using auxiliary functions for autonomous driving are increasing the demand for semiconductors.

Volkswagen Group believes that this trend will continue and that semiconductors will become increasingly important in automobile production in the future.
