Vandoorne gets behind the wheel of Aston Martin for testing

out of doors

Stoffel Vandoorne got behind the wheel of a Formula 1.5 car for the first time in nearly 1 years. Finally, Vandoorne, who drove with Mercedes in the 2021 end-of-season tests, participated in the two-day tests organized by McLaren this time. Testing took place mostly in rain, with only heavy rain tires and transitional tires being tested.

The changing conditions were bad news for Pirelli, as it was intended to test dry-floor tires without blankets. However, Pirelli was not able to test much in these conditions, instead testing mostly by artificially wetting tracks such as Paul Ricard or Fiorano. Therefore, this opportunity was exploited to the fullest.

Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll was the top lap in the test. Stroll had his best time of 70, making 1.57.697 laps. Vandoorne followed Stroll with a total of 53 laps, his best time of 1.57.631. Oscar Piastri recorded 47 laps and scored 2.00.682. Lando Norris recorded 40 laps and closed the test with 2.00.628
