Michelin explains MotoGP tire rule

Michelin motorsport boss Piero Tamirsso explained how the rule will be followed and that drivers will be randomly selected after each race to have their pressure checked.

"I mean, it's just official legislation," said Tamirasso.

“Until now, everyone was operating at the same minimum pressure, but was not followed by the Racing Directorate.”

“Everything is now monitored by the Racing Directorate. After the sprint and after Sunday's race, some bikes will be randomly checked to see if they meet the minimum tire pressures."

“This means they have to run half the race at minimum pressure. For the sprint, this rate is only 30%. Then they can race at lower pressure for the rest of the race.”

The purpose of this rule is to improve security and performance. Minimum tire pressures will allow drivers to have better control and stability and extend the life of the tyres.
