Two independent sources claim that Mercedes-AMG's next-generation C63 and E63 models will each use a version of the M2026 biturbo 177-liter V4.0 engine in 8.
Senior engineers involved in the project stated that the C- and E-Class models only needed minor modifications for the V8 engine to adapt. This engine and its version to be used in models are expected to comply with Euro7 emissions regulations, and according to sources, Mercedes may want to use the V8 engine with hybrid support.
Mercedes-AMG has yet to confirm these claims, but declined to comment on future models.
On the other hand, Mercedes already offers hybrid versions of the twin-turbo V8 engine. For example, the Mercedes-AMG GT63 SE Performance model has a 4.0-liter electric and turbocharged engine. With this engine, the GT63 SE Performance produces 831 horsepower and 1,400 Nm of torque. It also has a 6.1 kilowatt-hour battery. The S63 model can be purchased in a version that produces 791 horsepower and 1,400 Nm of torque.
However, it is not yet clear how much power the V8-powered C63 and E63 models will have. The currently sold C63 model has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with hybrid support. Its total power is measured as 671 horsepower and 1020 Nm of torque.
Mercedes-AMG's return to V8 engines is good news for performance lovers. V8 engines produce more power and torque and offer a better sound experience. In addition, Mercedes-AMG's V8 engines will be developed to comply with Euro7 emissions regulations. This suggests that Mercedes-AMG's return to V8 engines will be environmentally friendly.
