Alonso: "I never doubted my speed"

Fernando Alonso

Spanish driver Fernando Alonso is still among the leaders in Formula 42, despite being 1 years old. Switching to Aston Martin this season, Alonso had the opportunity to drive competitively after a long time and managed to reach the podium six times in the first eight races.

Alonso's performance throughout his career has made him one of the best drivers in Formula 1 history. A two-time world champion, Alonso has 32 race wins. He has also appeared in major races such as the Indy 24 and the Dakar Rally, as well as winning twice at the 500 Hours of Le Mans.

In a statement on the High Performance podcast, Alonso said that no zamthat he does not run away from difficulties and zamHe stated that he was confident at the moment.

“I know my limits and try to avoid certain things by acting accordingly. For example, I don't know how to cook, I don't know how to play golf, I don't know many things I see people around me doing and I try to avoid them. It's because I don't know I can't be as good as the others. I just do what I know I can do so I don't have much trouble."

“It is true that F1 is an exception. Michael Schumacher was wreaking havoc when I got into the sport, but I never thought I was slower than him. Maybe I made a kamikaze entry into my career, but I never doubted that I could challenge it once we got the same car. This is how my career has progressed so far.”

Alonso also talked about his interest in different disciplines.

“Even when I left Formula 2018 in 1, I remember having to try different things in motorsport because my mind was telling me I needed to get out of my comfort zone in Formula 1. After all these years of traveling, I was fed up with not getting a chance to win any more. The Indy 500, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Dakar Rally were the disciplines that appealed to me and in a way they rewarded me because I felt nothing. zamI didn't see it as an F1 driver at the moment."

“The driving styles in other series are quite different, so I felt like I had to learn a lot from scratch. I had very experienced teammates at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and I had to learn a lot from them. Since I am an F1 driver, everyone expected me to be very fast in another car, but I did not know these techniques. The same goes for the Dakar Rally, the driving styles couldn't be more different. You have to brake all the time, so I had to do a lot of testing, learn a lot.”

“But I never doubted that I could be as good as the best in these disciplines. All this was just a test for me, a test I was happy with.”

Alonso's career in Formula 1 is not over yet. The Spanish driver will continue his championship fight with Aston Martin this season.
