Bringing a new understanding to the race tracks with its unique design philosophy, the Peugeot 9X8 Le Mans Hypercar will make its first official race in Monza, Italy on July 10, in the fourth leg of the 2022 FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC). Building on the success of the 905 and 908 in the past, Peugeot returns to the endurance race with a hybrid-engined car that embodies the strategy of transitioning to electric.

Peugeot is now ready to set a new milestone in the brand's successful motorsport history on July 10. Italy's legendary circuit witnessed the victory of the Peugeot 2007 in the 908 km LMP1.000 category in April 1. After 15 years, the legendary track will once again host a first. On July 10, 2022, the Peugeot 6X9 takes the stage for its first race in the Le Mans Hypercar class of the Monza 8 Hours.

The Peugeot 9X8 takes to the track at Monza on 10 July, not only reflecting Peugeot's expertise in this area, but also zamIt now demonstrates its determination to introduce new electric technology in the road car range and acts as a carrier for the brand's electrification strategy.

Stellantis Motorsport Director Jean Marc Finot, who made evaluations for the first race of the Peugeot 9X8, said, “The first race of the Peugeot 9X8 is the culmination of the first phase of our mission. For both the FIA World Endurance Championship and the Le Mans 24 Hours, we assembled a team and developed an LMH Hypercar based on the latest technology and expertise from Team Peugeot Totalenergies. This weekend we will face very experienced teams in Italy. A serious challenge awaits us, we are aware of this, but we act with determination, enthusiasm and ambition.”

During the past six months, Team Peugeot Totalenergies has conducted an intense testing program on various tracks, accompanied by a challenging roadmap across Europe, to prepare for this first ambitious race. The team's roadmap is based on two key phases. In the first phase, simulator sessions were held at Peugeot's Satory headquarters near Paris. Here, the team had the opportunity to evaluate and complete the energy management map for Monza, as the drivers faced the challenging features of the track in a virtual environment. This was followed by a physical track test at MotorLand Aragón, Spain. Here the 9X8 has completed its 15.000th kilometer and thus Team Peugeot Totalenergies has reached its pre-Monza goal.

An intense 36-hour endurance process was completed during testing. Meanwhile, the team's racing team (drivers, engineers and mechanics) made significant progress. However, the teams responsible for managing the two Peugeot 93X94s competing with door numbers #9 and #8 made significant gains for the race. Paul Di Resta, Mikkel Jensen and Jean-Eric Vergne will compete in the vehicle with door number #93 designed by Gauthier Bouteiller. Car #94 brings together the likes of James Rossiter, Gustavo Menezes and Loïc Duval, with Brice Gaillardon taking on the role of race engineer.
