FAW has launched a five-door version of its Bestune Pony electric city car in China. The new model seats four and offers a larger cabin and boot than the original three-door Pony. Buyers can choose between two LFP battery packs, with a claimed range of up to 328 km under China’s CLTC test cycle.
How much does the five-door Bestune Pony cost?
The five-door Bestune Pony starts at $6,735 in China, while the top-spec version costs up to $8,230. The figures apply to the Chinese market. A converted estimate of about 335,000 TL is not an official price for Turkey, and no Turkish launch or pricing information has been announced.
Dimensions and boot space
The car measures 3,350 mm long, 1,540 mm wide and 1,600 mm tall, with a 2,215 mm wheelbase. Compared with the three-door version, the five-door model is 350 mm longer and 30 mm wider, while its wheelbase has grown by 262 mm. The longer wheelbase creates more room for rear passengers.
The boot holds 265 liters with the rear seats in use, compared with 81 liters in the earlier model. Fold the rear seats and capacity rises to 1,052 liters. That increase gives the compact city car more flexibility for groceries, luggage and larger everyday items.
Design and interior features
The Pony keeps its angular shape and adds semi-hidden door handles and 13-inch wheel covers. Buyers can choose from orange, blue, green, brown and white. Ground clearance is 130 mm.
Inside, the available equipment includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen and a 7-inch LCD instrument display. A two-spoke steering wheel and physical controls on the center console complete the cabin layout.
Motor, battery options and driving range
A rear-mounted electric motor produces 30 kW, or about 40 hp. Buyers can select a 17 kWh or 27.2 kWh LFP battery. FAW quotes a maximum speed of 103 km/h.
- Engine output: 30 kW (about 40 hp)
- Battery choices: 17 kWh and 27.2 kWh
- CLTC range: 222–328 km, depending on the battery
- WLTP range: 182–269 km, depending on the battery
- Top speed: 103 km/h
The range figures differ because CLTC and WLTP use different test procedures. The largest quoted figure, 328 km, applies to the CLTC cycle; FAW’s corresponding WLTP range figures are lower. Buyers comparing versions should check both the battery capacity and the test standard behind each estimate.
What is new about the five-door Bestune Pony?
The main upgrade is practicality. The longer body and wheelbase provide more space for rear passengers, while the boot grows from 81 to 265 liters with the seats raised. Folding those seats expands the cargo area to 1,052 liters. Combined with two battery choices and four-seat capacity, the five-door Pony offers a more versatile layout for urban driving than its three-door predecessor.
FAW has announced the model and its prices for China. The company has not provided details about availability or pricing in Turkey.
