The Mamak Metro project, which is vital for the eastern axis of Ankara and whose foundation was laid on 13 June, has been revived after a long break. With the work schedule shared by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, the teams in the field are intensifying, while the project is expected to be completed by 2028.
Route Clarified, Arrangement Begins on Natoyolu Street
While the works, which started after a long period of silence, raised the expectation that the Mamak Metro will greatly relieve transportation, the traffic flow is changing in some areas due to the construction process.
Traffic Regulation: Within the scope of the project, partial road closures will be made on Natoyolu Avenue in the following days. According to the information received from EGO employees, it is foreseen that there will be temporary problems in transportation due to these arrangements.
Station Layout: The station areas on the route are different. While the works continue in the middle of the road in Aşık Veysel station area, it is stated that the stations will be built on the pavements on the roadside at some points and in the middle of the road at some points depending on the traffic density. Foundation works on Sultan Fatih Street also gained momentum again.
Citizens Expect the Process to Accelerate
With the start of the metro construction, work machines have been intensified and traffic guidance and warning signs have been positioned. Residents and shopkeepers agree that the Mamak Metro will significantly facilitate access to the city centre from the eastern axis of the capital.
However, there are doubts among shopkeepers and citizens about the achievement of the 2028 target. Citizens around General Zeki Doğan and Fahri Korutürk stations recognise the importance of the project, but say that the construction process needs to be accelerated.
