Typhoon warning in the Philippines: 30 million people at risk

There have been casualties in the Approach of Typhoon Fung-wong, the Super Typhoon in the Philippines. According to local authorities, at least 2 people died due to flooding caused by the typhoon.

It was reported that a villager living in Catanduanes province lost his life when swept away by floodwaters, and another person living in the city of Catbalogan in Samar province also died after being trapped under a collapsed structure due to the flood.

The number of people evacuated due to the typhoon has reached 1 million nationwide, and at least 386 flights have been canceled, including 325 domestic and 61 international flights. Due to the Philippine Coast Guard’s ban on ships sailing out to sea, 6,600 passengers and cargo workers were stranded in ports. The flooding caused by the heavy rains has made life difficult for the local population.

Philippines Secretary of Defense Gilberto Teodoro Jr. announced that Typhoon Fung-wong poses a risk to large parts of the country, including the densely populated Manila region. The Philippines Civil Defense Office has warned that Fung-wong could affect 30 million people.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the typhoon is expected to make landfall tonight or tomorrow morning in Aurora or Isabela provinces and will gradually lose its strength.
