World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus shared a post on the US-based social media platform X regarding the issue.
Expressing their sadness over the killing of doctor Adam Ibrahim Ismail in El Fasher, Sudan, Ghebreyesus stated, “WHO mourns Dr. Ismail and calls for an end to violence against health workers. The bloodshed in Sudan must stop.”
Ghebreyesus emphasized that peace is the best medicine.
Doctor Ismail was serving at the Saudi Hospital in El Fasher.
Since April 15, 2023, Sudan has been experiencing intense clashes between the army and the externally supported Sudanese Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The largest city in the Darfur region in western Sudan, El Fasher, has come largely under RSF control after the fierce clashes.
In the city where tens of thousands have fled from the conflicts, footage shared by RSF members showed civilians being forcibly displaced and numerous unarmed individuals being killed and tortured.
