Making a statement at the Miraflores Palace, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro addressed the agenda of psychological warfare, which has been ongoing for nearly 14 weeks. The Caracas administration stated that it has instructed the organisation of local defence organisations in the event of a possible external intervention.
Maduro stressed the need to establish a unit attached to the Strategic Operational Command (CEOFANB) and the importance of having popular defence ready in every neighbourhood, in every city. He said that in order to always win and triumph, it is necessary to be tough as steel and to take decisive steps towards patriotism and freedom.
The purpose of the internal units is to provide support for military operations and to ensure the functioning of basic public services and critical infrastructure after mobilisation. The United States has stepped up sanctions and military preparations against Venezuela, with Donald Trump signing a decree ordering the military to be more active in the fight against Latin American drug cartels. The US, which sent warships to maritime jurisdictions in late August, brought the intervention in the region to the agenda with the statements of Defence Minister Pete Hegseth.
In response, Maduro stated that he mobilised approximately 4.5 million militia forces in the country and that he has the capacity to repel any attack. In the international public opinion and Venezuelan authorities, criticism continues that the US targeting some boats off the coast of Venezuela is against international law.
