The number of people killed in Tuesday’s train accident in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh has risen to 8. Authorities reported that about 17 people were also seriously injured in the incident.
Accident Details and Rescue Operations
The accident occurred in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, when a passenger train collided with a freight train standing on the same line.
According to official statements, 8 people lost their lives. About 17 people were referred to different hospitals with serious injuries. Bilaspur District Officer Sanjay Agrawal stated that at least 2 people were still under the train wreckage and rescue operations were continuing intensively.
District Officer Agrawal stated that the incident was a “major accident” and that rescue operations are continuing with the participation of hundreds of people. Authorities continue to work meticulously to reach the people under the rubble.
