Catastrophic Train Accident in Romania: 4 Dead at Barrier-less Crossing

In a disastrous accident at a railway crossing between Vidra and Jilava stations in Ilfov County near Bucharest, Romania, a passenger train hit a car. As a result of the accident, 4 people in the vehicle died and 1 person was injured.

Details of the accident and barrier-free crossing

The accident took place on Friday in the village of Cretesti, Vidra municipality, on the Yergöğü-Bucharest railway line.

It was reported that the train involved in the accident was a “Sageata Albastra” (Blue Arrow) passenger train. It was stated that the level crossing where the collision occurred was barrier-less, but there were necessary signposts.

Police confirmed that the train hit the vehicle while travelling between Vidra and Jilava stations.

Intervention and Traffic Situation

Immediately after the accident, emergency teams of the Bucharest-Ilfov Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, ambulances, firefighters and rescue teams were dispatched to the scene.

The fifth person in the vehicle was rescued conscious and received initial medical treatment at the scene. The national railway company CFR announced that train traffic in the area was completely stopped due to the accident.

Police and railway inspectors are currently conducting a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the collision and how it occurred.
