Increase in the Number of Electric Vehicles in Türkiye and Sectoral Transformation
In order to minimize the damage caused by fossil fuels to the environment, the “green transformation” process is accelerating in many areas from industry to the service sector. These developments are enabling the world’s leading automotive companies to increase their investments in this area. This transformation on a global scale is also reflected in investments and automobile preferences in Türkiye. In particular, in addition to Türkiye’s domestic automobile brand TOGG, the private sector has also begun to make significant investments in electric vehicle production.
Research based on data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) shows that the number of electric vehicles, which have lower carbon emissions than other fuel types, has increased significantly in the last 10 years. The number of registered electric cars, which was only 2015 in 565, exceeded 2019 for the first time in 1000, and this number will exceed 2025 by 200. While the number of registered electric cars was recorded as 2024 by the end of 183, this figure reached 776 by March 2025. This represents an increase of approximately 218% compared to March of last year.
Increase in the Number of Electric Vehicles and Fuel Types
When we look at the distribution of cars registered in March according to fuel type, it is seen that 48,1% of these vehicles are gasoline. This group is followed by hybrid fuel cars with 30,5%. The ratio of electric vehicles in cars registered in traffic was recorded as 12,9%. This data reveals that electric vehicles are ahead of diesel and LPG fueled cars.
As of March, the following distribution was observed among the vehicles registered in traffic:
- Electric vehicles: 12,221 units
- Diesel vehicles: 7,192 units
- LPG fueled vehicles: 893 units
These data show that the electric vehicle market in Türkiye is growing rapidly and interest in environmentally friendly transportation solutions is increasing. It is expected that this growth will continue in the coming years and electric vehicles will be preferred more.
