Electric Vehicle Conversion System from Qinomic
According to the latest announcement from Stellantis, Qinomic has introduced an innovative conversion system that enables the conversion of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) with internal combustion engines into electric vehicles. This system aims to both increase environmental sustainability and extend the life of existing vehicles.
As part of the win-win strategy, Qinomic will source over 200 original components required for the conversion directly from Stellantis. Stellantis will then buy back the components to be replaced during the conversion and remanufacture them at the SUSTAINera Circular Economy Center in Mirafiori, Turin. This project was developed around 2,5 years ago in collaboration with Stellantis’ circular economy business unit SUSTAINera and is now being implemented with the introduction of new technologies.
Electric Vehicle Conversion Project
The conversion project allows owners of internal combustion engine light commercial vehicles to convert their existing vehicles into electric models instead of purchasing new ones. In the first phase, this innovative technology will be available in France and will cover Stellantis’ medium-sized Pro One light commercial vehicles: Fiat Professional Scudo, Opel Vivaro, Peugeot Expert and Citroen Jumpy.
Qinomic will source the original components required for the conversion process (more than 200, including batteries and electric motors) directly from Stellantis. Stellantis will recover internal combustion engine components such as engine, transmission, tank and exhaust system and integrate them into the SUSTAINera cycle of activities, depending on their condition and mileage. These components will then either be reused or manufactured.
Extending Service Life and Environmentally Friendly Mobility
The new technical solution guarantees original equipment (OEM) quality by ensuring compliance with important criteria such as safety, durability and homologation. This promotes the transition to CO2-free mobility and significantly extends the service life of vehicles. This reduces environmental impact and increases the efficiency of existing vehicles.
