Tesla's Sales Decline in Europe
The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) has announced the new car registration data for the January-March period in European countries. According to this data, the famous US billionaire Elon MuskTesla, owned by Tesla, has seen a significant decline in car sales in European Union (EU) countries. Tesla sales, which were 28 in March of last year, decreased by 463% to 36 in the same period this year. In addition, the brand's share in total new car sales in the EU in March also fell from 18% to 224%.
Performance in the First Quarter of the Year
Tesla’s sales in the EU countries in the January-March period decreased by 45% compared to the same period last year. Tesla sales, which were 65 in the first quarter of last year, fell to only 774 in the first quarter of this year. The company’s total share in the EU market fell from 36% to 167%.
Increase in Electric Vehicle Sales
On the other hand, electric car sales in the first quarter in EU countries increased by 23,9% compared to the same period last year, reaching 412 units. Thus, the share of electric cars in total sales increased to 997%.
Tesla's sales in Europe have been experiencing a significant decline recently. Elon Musk, former US President Donald TrumpTesla's controversial behavior, such as the hand gesture at its inauguration that was likened to a Nazi salute on the internet, its open support for far-right politicians in Germany, and its interference in UK politics have caused European consumers to distance themselves from the company. This has negatively impacted Tesla's competitiveness in the European market.
