A New Era in Zero Carbon Transportation: MAN Truck & Bus
MAN Truck & Bus, has taken a groundbreaking step in zero-carbon road transport and started the delivery of its fully electric tractors. In this context, it has launched its first e-tractor DRAXLMAIER GroupHe handed it over to MAN CEO Alexander Vlaskamp"This is a turning point in our company's history. We are entering a new electric era," he said.
MAN Truck & Bus, a pioneer of sustainability in the sector with its innovative vehicles for the decarbonization of road freight transport, has initiated a new era in the sector by delivering its fully electric heavy-duty tractors. At the delivery event held in Leipzig, the first 40-ton tractor was delivered by MAN Sales Board Member Friedrich Baumann by automotive supplier DRAXLMAIER GroupMAN eTruck will be used by DRAXLMAIER to transport the batteries of the Porsche Macan Electric to the Porsche plant in Leipzig with zero emissions. The MAN eTruck will be charged with electricity from renewable sources at the DRAXLMAIER plant.
Alexander Vlaskamp: “A Turning Point in the History of Our Company”
“This is a milestone in our company’s history. 100 years ago, MAN presented its first diesel truck. Now we are entering a new electric era. Our first e-tractor is going to DRAXLMAIER. We are very grateful for the trust placed in MAN. After years of planning, development and tens of thousands of kilometers of test drives, we have finally reached this stage. It couldn’t be more sustainable. It is truly an electric success story,” said MAN CEO Alexander Vlaskamp.
MAN Sales Director Friedrich Baumann “We expect around half of all MAN tractors delivered by 2030 to be battery electric,” he said, drawing attention to the company’s goals in this area.
DRAXLMAIER Group: Electrification for Sustainable Logistics
Head of Supply Chain Management, DRAXLMAIER Group Felix Air Conditioner “By using the MAN eTruck, we are achieving complete electrification for our customers. We are also confirming our commitment to making logistics processes more sustainable and future-oriented. In the process, we are ensuring the reduction of emissions in the supply chain, a fundamental aspect of our sustainability approach,” he said.
MAN eTruck: Innovative Features and Powerful Performance
Used for DRAXLMAIER MAN eTGX, It has 450 hp (330 kW) of power and a battery capacity of 534 kWh with six battery packs. In addition to a charging capacity of up to 375 kW via CCS, the MAN eTGX also stands out with its innovative design and a fully digital driver's workplace specially designed for the eTruck. In addition, thanks to its fifth wheel height of 950 mm, it can tow trailers with an internal height of three meters, thus providing greater volume carrying capacity. Thanks to its shortest wheelbase in its class, the MAN eTruck stands out as a vehicle compatible with all types of trailers.
Future Vision: Electric Tractor Portfolio
The most powerful version of the MAN eTruck currently stands out with its 544 hp (400 kW) output. Depending on the application, it will be able to provide a range of around 650 kilometres without recharging with the seventh high-voltage battery to be introduced in the future. The MAN eTGX and MAN eTGS will be available with the megawatt charging standard (MCS), which will enable charging capacities of one megawatt and more in the future. This means that the vehicle can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent of its battery capacity in around half an hour. This makes the MAN eTruck a suitable option for long-distance transport. A total of more than 2.500 order requests have already been received for the eTruck. With the eTGL, the ‘little brother’ of the eTruck, which will be introduced at the IAA 2024, MAN has begun offering a complete electric tractor portfolio from 12 to 50 tonnes.
